Friday 25th April 2025

We’ve just completed a major expansion, increasing our workshop capacity by 50 per cent with the addition of a neighbouring 2,000 sq ft unit here at Enterprise Park.

The new space is purpose-built to accommodate electric vehicles (EVs), commercial vehicles (CVs), and motorhomes, and includes a dedicated bay for advanced vehicle diagnostics.

“We’re all incredibly excited about this expansion,” said Tim Benson, Managing Director at Oldfields Garage. “It’s about staying ahead of industry changes and ensuring we have the capacity, tools, and expertise to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”

The upgraded workshop is fitted with advanced equipment, including a 6.5m four-post ramp for larger commercial vehicles and motorhomes, a dedicated EV ramp capable of battery replacement work, and a diagnostics area for advanced fault-finding.

Tim said: “We’re seeing increased demand for commercial vehicle and motorhome servicing, and the new workshop allows us to cater to these markets more effectively. There has also been a 61 per cent increase in EV and hybrid work, when comparing the first four months of the year against the same period in 2024.

“The new EV bay not only supports this demand but also reassures our customers that we’re equipped and qualified to continue servicing their needs, should they want to make the switch to electric.”

Paul Benson, who founded Oldfields Garage with his wife Cheryl in 1991 and is father to Tim, said: “Cheryl and I started Oldfields with a simple goal: to offer good, honest service to our local community. Back then, we were running a small workshop and a traditional attended fuel station.

“To see how the business has grown under Tim’s leadership is incredibly rewarding. It still carries the same values we built it on, just with a few more ramps and a lot more technology.”

The new unit, connected to the existing workshop, allows for seamless workflow while maintaining its commitment to efficiency and customer care.

Helping to ease cost of vehicle maintenance with #ClubOldfields

Friday 8th November 2024

We recently introduced a new initiative to support our customers with managing vehicle servicing and maintenance costs.

It comes as drivers prepare for increases in vehicle excise duty (VED) following changes announced in last week’s Autumn Budget.

From April 2025, car tax for petrol cars, diesels and most hybrids that emit between 1-50g/km of CO2 will soar ten times over for the first year of ownership, reaching £110.

At the same time, new cars emitting between 51-75g/km of CO2 will see rates rise from £20 or £30 to £135, with all other rates set to double.

Standard VED rates after the first year will go on rising as well and will continue to follow the Retail Price Index.

“Higher VED costs for drivers will be felt across the board,” said Tim Benson, managing director at Oldfields Garage. “With household budgets under strain in recent years due to high inflation, increased mortgage costs and spiralling energy bills, drivers will be looking to maximise the value they get from their garages.”

#ClubOldfields allows existing customers to spread the cost of servicing and repairs while enjoying a range of exclusive benefits.

Sue Heelis, a long-time customer of ours, said: “I have used Oldfields Garage for many years now and I’m always delighted with their attitude, professionalism and honesty.

“I joined #ClubOldfields as it is perfect fit for me. I now pay monthly towards my annual service costs which is a very helpful budgeting aid and the package also includes roadside and home start assistance through Evolution Assistance, a great additional bonus.”

The flexible payment offering is based on a 12-month plan with fixed monthly payments, allowing customers to lock in today’s prices for the entire year.

Mr Davies, another customer of ours said: “We’ve been using Oldfields for over 10 years now, and as someone who’s semi-retired, I really appreciate being able to budget for car servicing.

“I only go to Oldfields for servicing and repairs because I trust them to offer honest advice. As a local family business, they understand my needs and are familiar with my car. Supporting local businesses is important to me.”

Lucy Bryan said: “I use the service plan because it’s easy and convenient. With small monthly payments, you avoid the big yearly bill since you’ve already saved up throughout the year.”

Members also benefit from exclusive promotions including discount on Castrol oil, and priority bookings with early reminders for upcoming MOTs and routine servicing, allowing them to plan and avoid last-minute rushes.

Tim added: “Customers can now spread the cost of upkeep over a 12-month plan with a fixed monthly budget at today’s prices, ensuring financial predictability, by joining #ClubOldfields.

“Unlike traditional service plans, with #ClubOldfields you can use your balance not only for regular servicing but also for any emergency repairs for your car or van should they arise unexpectedly.

“We understand the challenges of vehicle maintenance and want to provide a solution that makes it more manageable and rewarding. It’s our way of saying thank you to our loyal customers.”

We didn’t pick up the gong this time, but we were absolutely thrilled to have made the final of Automechanika “Garage of the Year 2023” hosted by the Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF). Automechanika, held at the NEC in Birmingham, is the UKs largest trade event for the Automotive Aftermarket.

“Garage of the Year” is the headline award in the prestigious competition, which recognizes the best garages in the UK, and Oldfields has been selected as one of the top seven garages in the country.

The Automechanika Garage of the Year competition is judged by industry experts, who assess the quality of the garage’s work, customer service, and business practices and then pass it over to the public to vote for the overall winner, with the winner being announced at a special ceremony on 7th June 2023.

Tim Benson, Director of Oldfields Garage Services, expressed his excitement about reaching the final: “We are really chuffed to be named as a finalist for Garage of the Year 2023. It’s a fantastic recognition of the hard work and dedication of our team, who are committed to providing the highest quality service to our customers. We pride ourselves on our customer service and attention to detail, and this nomination is a testament to that.” He added that “We’ll be flying the flag for Herefordshire. There are some fantastic garages among our category, we may be smallest in the category but we’ll give it our best shot.”

Oldfields Garage Services has been providing car maintenance and repair services to the Leominster community for over 30 years. With a team of experienced technicians and state-of-the-art equipment, the garage offers a range of services, including MOT testing, servicing, and repairs.

About the awards…

The Garage of the Year will be identifiable with a team or individual delivering business performance transparency, meetings with suppliers and customers, and implementation of specific corporate governance policies such as complaints procedures, duty of care, and environmental awareness.

Vehicles are complex machines that need proper lubrication to work efficiently and avoid wear and tear. Engine oil is a crucial part of this system, but with so many types available, it can be hard to choose the right one. Castrol oil is a trusted brand that’s been around for over 120 years. In this blog, we’ll discuss the importance of using the right Castrol oil in a car or van.

  1. Protects the Engine: The right Castrol oil protects your engine from wear and tear by reducing friction and heat build-up in the engine. This is especially important in high-performance engines that generate more heat.
  2. Better Fuel Efficiency: Castrol oil is formulated to reduce friction and improve fuel efficiency. This can save you money on gas and reduce your carbon footprint.
  3. Longer Engine Life: Castrol oil provides long-lasting protection to prevent premature engine wear and extend the life of your vehicle.
  4. Compatibility: Castrol oil is formulated to meet the specifications of different engines and vehicles, so you can find the right type for your car or van, whether it’s gasoline or diesel-powered.
  5. Improved Performance: Castrol oil is designed to maintain its performance under extreme conditions, such as high temperatures and heavy loads. This can improve your engine’s overall performance, making it run smoother, accelerate faster, and handle better.

Using the right Castrol oil is crucial for maintaining your car or van’s health and longevity. It can also improve fuel efficiency, prevent premature engine wear, and enhance overall performance. Always consult your vehicle owner’s manual or a qualified mechanic to find the right Castrol oil for your vehicle.
